[nggallery id=7]This was an unexpected gig, I have to say.
I spotted that McFly were playing at the iTunes Live Music Festival ’08, so I entered the free prize draw for a ticket, never expecting to win, and sure enough, heard nothing more about it.
Then on the Tuesday before the gig when I got a text letting me know I’d won a ticket – hurrah! Cue a hurriedly-arranged afternoon off work then a dash up to Camden to get in the queue – I got there a couple of hours before the doors opened and already the queue was round the corner and getting steadily longer.
Once the doors did open, getting in was pretty quick and orderly, and with a choice of the downstairs (closer and packed) or the balconies, I managed to bag a spot right at the front of the first balcony giving a great view of the stage. The show was filmed and broadcast pretty much live to several Vue Cinemas, although alas there so far seems to be no sign of any of the video making its way to more general release, which is a shame as it was a fun gig. Very similar (probably identical but I wouldn’t swear to it) set to the one they played a fortnight earlier at Mercedes World, being a mix of their best stuff plus several songs from their new and at that stage unreleased RadioActive album (OK, the cut down version had already been distributed free with the Mail on Sunday, but the full album was not yet released). As ever, they got the crowd going right from the start (that’s what opening with your current single does, I suppose!).
Not much else to say about the gig really – if I’m completely honest I think seeing the same show twice in a fortnight was a bit much, but it wasn’t planned that way of course.
Set list – One For The Radio, Everybody Knows, Obviously, Star Girl, POV, Going Through The Motions, Transylvania, All About You, Lies, That Girl, Falling In Love, Please Please, Do Ya, Room On The 3rd Floor, The Last Song, 5 Colours In Her Hair
